WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

 

WHEREAS, Bishop Stacy M. McQueen was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on October 2, 1937, and migrated to Newark, New Jersey in 1954, where he graduated from Central High School; and

 

WHEREAS, after more than four (4) years of military service, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, and attended the Deliverance Evangelistic Center where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and began a lifetime of absolute commitment to his Christian faith and his mission of full time evangelism; and

 

WHEREAS, shortly thereafter, Bishop McQueen united in holy matrimony to his soulmate and partner in life, Evangelist Ruth Yvonne Hayes, and together they established and pioneered churches throughout the United States, including their flagship organization, The Full Gospel Monument of Faith located in Newark, New Jersey, where he has served as Chief Prelate for forty-two (42) years; and

 

WHEREAS, although his influential ministry has provided much needed Relief Missions and Crusades throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Africa, his greatest joy is providing outreach services and spiritual comfort to the residents in the City of Newark. 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of South Orange Avenue and South 20th Street as “Bishop Stacy M. McQueen Way”.

 

2.                     The official name of the said streets shall remain South Orange Avenue and South 20th Street in their entirety.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of South Orange Avenue and South 20th Street as “Bishop Stacy M. McQueen Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
