Additional Information: 

The purpose of this Resolution is to donate one (1) sanitation truck to a sister city

body

 

WHEREAS, since 1962, the government of the United States of America has had diplomatic relations with Jamaica; and

 

WHEREAS, on May 05, 2024, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R8-e establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Newark (“City) and Morant Bay, Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica (Morant Bay); and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City desires to promote business exchanges between our Sister Cities as well as charity, cultural and educational endeavors; and

 

                       WHEREAS, Morant Bay faces challenges with refuse collection; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City has surplus equipment, including a sanitation truck, which is no longer needed for public use due to its age, incompatibility or obsolescence; and 

 

                       WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works desires to dispose of said sanitation truck by donating it to Morant Bay in affirmation  our Sister City relationship; and

 

                       WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:11-36(2) authorizes municipalities to dispose of personal property not needed for public use without advertising where such disposition is to a foreign government with which the United States has diplomatic relations.

 

                        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee the Director of the Department of Public Works is authorized  to donate to Morant Bay, Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica (“Morant Bay”) the sanitation truck described in the attached Certificate of Title, which truck is no longer needed for a public purpose.

 

2.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Works is further authorized to take any action or to execute any document or instrument necessary to effectuate said donation.

 

3.                     The Director of the Department of Public Works shall cause any document or instrument executed pursuant to Paragraph 3 of this Resolution to be filed in the Office of the City Clerk.

 

4.                     Certified copies of this Resolution shall be sent to the governing body of Morant Bay and to the Honorable Mayor Louis Chin of that City.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution authorizes the donation of one (1) sanitation truck to Morant Bay, Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica as part of the Sister Cities Program
