                     WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in Special Item of Appropriation in the amount of Five Hundred Eight Thousand Nine Hundred Eleven Dollars and Forty-Six Cents ($508,911.46) for FY2023 Clean Communities Grant and no provision has been made in the 2023 Temporary Budget for the aforesaid purpose and N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose above-mentioned; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Legistar File ID: 23-0870 is submitted by the Department of Public Works to accept the FY2023 Clean Communities Grant in the amount of Five Hundred Eight Thousand Nine Hundred Eleven Dollars and Forty-Six Cents ($508,911.46) from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to supplement an existing litter reduction program and removal as well as abatement of graffiti within the municipality; and

 

                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides that the Governing Body by a two-thirds vote may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the budget for said year; and

 

                     WHEREAS, emergency appropriation adopted in 2023, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20, including this Resolution total...……………………. $312,224,367.43.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is hereby made for the following classification:

2.                     The appropriation acceptance will be ratified back to January 1, 2023 from the date of adoption of this Resolution.

 

3.                     Said emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2023 Budget.

 

4.                     A copy of this Resolution shall be immediately filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution ratifies and establishes an appropriation for the FY2023 Clean Communities Grant in the amount of $508,911.46. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Agency awarded the funds. The appropriation acceptance will be ratified back to January 1, 2023 from the date of adoption of this Resolution (Citywide).
