WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City”) seeks funding to create green spaces for residents at the Bridge Housing Community, a new housing development 51-63 Elizabeth Avenue in the South Ward of Newark which will provide 20 chronically homeless Newark residents with transitional housing, meals, and supportive services

 

WHEREAS, on November 7, 2023, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services on behalf of the City submitted an application to The Nature Conservancy, with offices at 200 Pottersville Road, Chester, NJ 07930, for grant funds to purchase trees and shrubs for the Bridge Housing Community; and  

 

WHEREAS, as a result of the grant application and pursuant to the selection and approval of The Nature Conservancy, the City has been awarded a grant in the amount of Twenty-Eight Thousand Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($28,050.00) to purchase trees and shrubs for Comes As You Are: Bridge Housing Community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Nature Conservancy has executed an agreement dated as of March 1, 2024 to provide those grant management functions and processes that are necessary to administer, manage, and monitor grant awards and disburse funds, accordingly; and

 

WHEREAS, the City must execute a grant agreement with The Nature Conservancy in order to obtain the grant award.

                     NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator, are hereby authorized to submit an application to The Nature Conservancy (with offices at 200 Pottersville Road, Chester, NJ 07930) requesting grant funding in the amount of Twenty-Eight Thousand Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($28,050.00) to implement to purchase trees and shrubs for Comes As You Are: Bridge Housing Community.

 

2.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this application from the date of application submission to the date of this authorizing resolution.

 

3.                     The grant award in the amount of Twenty-Eight Thousand Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($28,050.00) from The Nature Conservancy is hereby accepted.

 

4.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute a grant agreement with The Nature Conservancy in order to obtain the grant funds.

 

5.                     The grant agreement is hereby ratified from its date of execution to the date of adoption of this resolution.

 

6.                     No municipal funds are required for acceptance or receipt of this grant award.

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator to submit an application for grant funding from The Nature Conservancy to purchase trees and shrubs for Comes As You Are: Bridge Housing Community and furthermore, ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator to enter into and execute a grant agreement with The Nature Conservancy to accept the grant award of $28,050.00. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.
