Additional Information:

The Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services seeks to develop a texting service that will allow the public to use when they see an unsheltered person in need of outreach services and support.

WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City”) seeks to develop a texting service for the public to use to help residents living on the street who are in need of outreach services and support; and

 

WHEREAS, on April 26, 2024, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services, on behalf of the City, submitted an application to Newark Alliance, Inc., with offices at 60 Park Place, Suite 1016 Newark, New Jersey 07102 (“Newark Alliance”), for grant funds to develop a texting service that will allow the public to text when they see an unhoused person in need of assistance; and  

 

WHEREAS, as a result of the grant application and pursuant to the selection and approval of Newark Alliance, the City has been awarded a grant in the amount of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($25,000.00) to develop a texting hotline for the public to use to help residents living on the street who are in need of outreach services and support; and 

 

 WHEREAS, the City must execute a grant agreement with Newark Alliance in order to obtain the grant award.

 

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator, are hereby authorized to submit an application to Newark Alliance, Inc., a New Jersey nonprofit corporation with offices at 60 Park Place, Suite 1016, Newark, New Jersey 07102 (“Newark Alliance”) requesting grant funding in the amount of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($25,000.00) to develop a texting hotline for the public to use to help residents living on the street who are in need of outreach services and support.

 

2.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this application from the date of application submission to the date of this authorizing resolution.

 

3.                     The grant award in the amount of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($25,000.00) from Newark Alliance is hereby accepted.

 

4.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute a grant agreement with Newark Alliance in order to obtain the grant funds.

 

5.                     The grant agreement is hereby ratified from its date of execution to the date of adoption of this resolution.

 

6.                     No municipal funds are required for acceptance or receipt of this grant award.

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator to submit an application for grant funding to Newark Alliance to develop a texting hotline for the public to use to help residents living on the street who are in need of outreach services and support. It ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Business Administrator to enter into and execute a grant agreement with Newark Alliance to accept the grant award of $25,000.00. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.
