WHEREAS, the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., 136-18 39th Avenue, Suite 211, Flushing, New York 11354, engages in connecting China with emerging America cities; and
WHEREAS, the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., desires to explore possible relationship between the City of Zun Yi, China and Newark; including tourism, economic development and cultural exchange and an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas for growth and urbanization; and
WHEREAS, the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerc, Inc., desires to host the trip for the Mayor of the City of Newark, Ras J. Baraka; and
WHEREAS, the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., desires to provide roundtrip tickets and hotel accommodations for the Mayor to travel and stay in Zun Yi, China from on or around October 30, 2017, through November 4, 2017, (a copy of the agenda is attached); and
WHEREAS, the value of airline tickets is Four Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($4,950.00) and the value of the hotel accommodations is Three Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($3,000.00); and
WHEREAS, other than mutual exchange of ideas for future partnerships and sharing knowledge and ideas for growth, economic development and cultural exchange the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., expects nothing in return from the City; and
WHEREAS, the Administration of the City of Newark desires to participate in this social, economic and cultural exchange of ideas; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor desires to accept the gift of air flight and hotel accommodations for the benefit of the City of Newark for the Mayor to participate in a social, economic and cultural exchange of ideas between the City of Zun Yi, China and the City of Newark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and/or the Business Administrator are authorized to accept from the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., 136-18 39th Avenue, Suite 211, Flushing, New York 11354, the gift of airline tickets valued at Four Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($4,950.00) and hotel accommodations valued at three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) for travel for Mayor Ras J. Baraka, from Newark, New Jersey to Zun Yi, China on or about October 30, 2017 through November 4, 2017, for the purpose of a mutual exchange of ideas for future partnerships and sharing knowledge and ideas for growth, economic development and cultural exchange.
2. The Municipal Council ratifies the acceptance of this gift from on or around October 30, 2017 to the date of adoption of this resolution.
3. No Municipal funds will be expended in the acceptance of this gift.
STATEMENT
This resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or the Business Administrator to accept a gift from the America Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce, Inc., of air flight and hotel accommodations for travel to Zun Yi, China from Newark, New Jersey from October 30, 2017, through November 4, 2017, valued at Seven Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($7,950.00), for the purpose of a mutual exchange of ideas for future partnerships and sharing knowledge and ideas for growth, economic development and cultural exchange..
