TE #14

                     WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in Special Item of Appropriation in the amount of $230,876.36, for the COVID-19 PPE for the City of Newark Firefighters and no provision has been made in the 2021 Temporary Budget for the aforesaid purpose and N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose above-mentioned; and

 

                     WHEREAS, by Resolution 7R9-a, adopted on January 6, 2021, from the United States Department of Homeland Security - FEMA, the City of Newark has been awarded $230,876.36 to fund COVID-19 PPE for the City of Newark Firefighters; and

 

                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides that the Governing Body by a two-thirds vote may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the budget for said year; and

 

                     WHEREAS, emergency appropriation adopted in 2021 pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 including this resolution total…………………$83,380,542.36.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is hereby made for the following classification:

2.                     Said emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2021 budget.

 

3.                     A copy of this resolution shall be filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

                     This resolution establishes the temporary emergency appropriation for the COVID-19 PPE in the amount of $230,876.36. The United States Department of Homeland Security-FEMA awarded the funds. The project period is August 18, 2020 through August 17, 2021. The City of Newark has provided a cash contribution in the amount of $23,087.64 funded in the 2020 current fund budget (011-195-1953-B2020) bringing total program resources to $253,964.00 for the period August 18, 2020 through August 17, 2021.
