WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Public Safety seeks to overhaul its Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) infrastructure to serve the residents of the City of Newark during emergencies; and

 

WHEREAS, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Public Safety Director submitted an application to the State of New Jersey Office of Information Technology, Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, requesting funding in the amount of $1,156,073.43, to fund equipment upgrades to the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) 911-System, with no City funds required (“Application”); and

 

WHEREAS, as a result of the submission of the Application, the City of Newark was awarded the grant in the amount of $1,156,073.43 (Grant Award #FY23-100-137-003); and 

 

WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal council finds it in the best interest of the City of Newark to accept the Grant Award in the amount of $1,156,073.43, execute the Grant Agreement with the State of New Jersey Office of Information Technology, Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, wherein no municipal funds are required, in relation to the Application.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, and the Public Safety Director, are hereby authorized to submit an application to the State of New Jersey Office of Information Technology, Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, requesting grant funding in the amount of $1,156,073.43, to overhaul the City’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) infrastructure (“Application”).

 

2.                     The Newark Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of the submission of the Application from the date of its submission to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

3.                     The grant award pursuant to the Application is hereby accepted in the amount of $1,156,073.43, Grant Award #FY23-100-137-003, to fund equipment upgrades to the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) 911-System.

 

4.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, and the Public Safety Director, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute the Grant Agreement with the State of New Jersey Office of Information Technology to receive and expend funds for the purpose of implementing an equipment upgrade of the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) 911-System.

 

5.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of the execution of the Grant Agreement from the date of its execution to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

6.                     No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.

 

7.                     The Public Safety Director shall file a fully-executed copy of the Application, the Grant Award letter, and the Grant Agreement in the Office of the City Clerk.

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, and the Public Safety Director, to submit an application for, accept, and enter into a Grant Agreement with State of New Jersey Office of Information Technology, Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, to fund equipment upgrades to the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) infrastructure, with no municipal funds required.
