WHEREAS, Butterfly Dreamz, a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation, 105 Lock Street, Suite 309, Newark New Jersey 07103, would like to donate pro bono services of a monthly Connect + Create Community Lunch Program at Hayes West Center of Hope by providing Complimentary meals, Creative Arts-Based Wellness Workshops, culturally Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities, Peer Mentoring and Leadership Development, Intergenerational Community Building, Mental Health Resources and Referrals, Program Staffing and Promotional Materials and Outreach services at a value of Seventeen Thousand, Two Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($17,250.00), for the period of February 28, 2026 to April 25, 2026 and June 27, 2026 to December 26, 2026; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs & Senior Services desires to accept the pro bono services of the monthly Connect + Create Community Lunch Program at Hayes West Center of Hope and acknowledge the donation; and

 

WHEREAS, Butterfly Dreamz fully understands and agrees that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark, Mayor Ras J. Baraka, or any other personnel affiliated with the City of Newark in exchange for the gift. 

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Local Public Contracts Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29, a local unit is authorized and empowered to accept bequests, legacies and gifts made to it and is empowered to utilize such bequests, legacies and gifts in the manner set forth in the conditions of the bequest, legacy or gift provided, however, that such bequest, legacy, or gift shall not be put to any use which is inconsistent with the laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States of America.

 

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs & Senior Services are authorized to accept the gift from Butterfly Dreamz, 105 Lock Street, Suite 309, Newark, New Jersey 07103, to provide a monthly Connect + Create Community Lunch program, Creative Arts-Based Wellness Workshops, culturally Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities, Peer Mentoring and Leadership Development, Intergenerational Community Building, Mental Health Resources and Referrals, Program Staffing and Promotional Materials and Outreach services at Hayes Park West Center of Hope for women, teen girls, and gender-expansive youth ages 12 and older with a value of Seventeen Thousand, Two Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($17,250.00), for the period of February 28, 2026 to April 25, 2026 and June 27, 2026 to December 26, 2026.   

 

2. The Municipal Council ratifies its acceptance from the date of the gift to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

                     

3. This gift of the Connect + Create Lunch Program at Hayes Park West Center of Hope is valued at Seventeen Thousand, Two Hundred Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($17,250.00).

 

4.                     The City acknowledges the donation of the Connect + Create Lunch Program and Workshops through this Resolution. 

 

5.                     No municipal funds will be expended for the acceptance of this gift.

 

 STATEMENT

 

This Resolution authorizes the Mayor, and/or the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs & Senior Services to accept a donation from Butterfly Dreamz, 105 Lock Street, Suite 309, Newark, New Jersey 07103 to provide a monthly Connect + Create Community Lunch Program, Creative Arts-Based Wellness Workshops, culturally Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities, Peer Mentoring and Leadership Development, Intergenerational Community Building, Mental Health Resources and Referrals, Program Staffing and Promotional Materials and Outreach services at the Hayes Park West Center of Hope for women, teen girls, and gender expansive youth ages 12 and older  with value of $17,250.00, for the period of February 28, 2026 to April 25, 2026 and June 27, 2026 to December 26, 2026.
