WHEREAS, on September 15, 2026, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R8-b(s) establishing a Sister City relationship between the City of Newark (the “City”) and the Town of Nabon, Azuay, Ecuador (“Nabon”); and
WHEREAS, the City desires to promote business exchanges between our Sister Cities as well as charity, cultural and educational endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Nabon faces challenges with fire suppression; and
WHEREAS, the City has surplus equipment, Fire truck, that is no longer utilized due to age, incompatibility and/or obsolescence; and
WHEREAS, a donation of this kind is consistent with the City values to affirm our connection to our Sister City; and
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:11-36(2) provides the statutory reference for donating goods and/or equipment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee the Director of the Department of Public Works is authorized donate to Nabon, Azuay, Ecuador (“Nabon”) one (1) Fire truck described in the attached Certificate of Title (VIN # 4ENRA AA85V 10082 07), which is no longer needed for public purposes.
2. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies this Resolution to the date of this authorizing Resolution.
3. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Safety, is further authorized to take any action and to execute any document or instrument necessary to effectuate such donation.
4. The Director of the Department of Public Works shall cause any document or instrument executed pursuant to Paragraph 3 of this Resolution to be filed in the Office of the City Clerk.
5. Copies of this Resolution are to be sent to the Governing Body of the Town of Nabon, Azuay, Ecuador and the Honorable Mayor William Patricio Maldonado Jiminez and.
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the Mayor or the Director of the Department of Public Safety to donate one (1) Fire truck to be donated to the City of Nabon, Azuay, Ecuador as part of the Sister Cities Program.
