WHEREAS, Plaintiff, Juliet Ezeigbo, instituted a suit in the Superior Court of New Jersey captioned, Juliet Ezeigbo v. City of Newark, et al, Docket No. ESX-L-001530-18, in which the plaintiff sought recovery for damages allegedly sustained during a nine-month period from 2016 to 2017 as a result of the alleged actions or omissions of the City of Newark and/or its agents, officers and employees; and
WHEREAS, a settlement proposal has been made to resolve this litigation in its entirety by payment in the total amount of One Hundred Thirty-Six Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($136,000.00).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Corporation Counsel is hereby authorized on behalf of the City of Newark to enter into and execute the attached Settlement Agreement and Release.
2. Upon receipt of all documents deemed necessary, the Director of Finance is hereby authorized and directed to issue payment in the amount of One Hundred Thirty-Six Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($136,000.00), which payment will be made payable to "Lawrence & Gerges, LLC, in trust for Juliet Ezeigbo" and mailed to Lawrence & Gerges, LLC, 242 Washington Avenue, Suite E1, Nutley, New Jersey 07110.
