WHEREAS, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) Board of Trustees is working with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), subregions and other state and local agencies to make travel a safer and more reliable experience within its region utilizing the Local Safety Program; and

WHEREAS, on July 26, 2019, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) invited the City of Newark to submit an application for the FY 2020 solicitation of the Local Safety and High Risk Rural Roads Program; and

WHEREAS, on January 10, 2020, the City of Newark, Department of Engineering, submitted an application to the NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of $4,200,000.00 from the NJTPA FY 2020 Local Safety High Risk Rural Roads Program for the City's Bergen Street Pedestrian Safety Corridor Improvements project, with no City funds required; and

WHEREAS, on February 11, 2021 NJTPA notified the City of Newark...
