WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Nora G. Darden-McNeil was born to a family of nine (9) siblings in Wilson, North Carolina in 1934, where she was affectionately known as "Baby Sista"; and

WHEREAS, after arriving in Newark as a young lady "Baby Sista", worked various jobs throughout the City with her sisters, eventually gravitating to the City's bustling night life and entertainment scene as a barmaid and, where her effervescent personality, poise and grace enamored her to all and, in great demand to work in the City's most popular night spots; and

WHEREAS, her entrepreneurial spirit led to several successful business ventures, including producing fashion shows and partnering in a restaurant, before venturing into social justice where she became a chef, retiring from the New Jersey Division of Justice, Law and Order; and

WHEREAS, despite her grueling Saturday night schedules, she was a faithful member of God's house on Sunday, and a leading vocalist in several choirs heard over the radio.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Springfield Avenue ...
