WHEREAS, the Newark Safe Gateway Pedestrianization and Traffic Calming Project is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety, accessibility, and urban connectivity within Newark's central corridors. This project seeks to reimagine key thoroughfares by prioritizing walkability, reducing vehicular traffic, and fostering a more vibrant, inclusive public realm; and
WHEREAS, in March 2024, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced funding in the amount of Four Million Thirty-One Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($4,031,000.00) ("Grant Funds"), through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2024. (P.L. 118-0042) for the purpose of the Newark Safe Gateway Pedestrianization and Traffic Calming Project ("Project") in the City of Newark (the "City"); and
WHEREAS, no Municipal funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of the grant award; and
