WHEREAS, the Assembly has passed Assembly Bill 3843, which permits a municipality to enact an ordinance requiring the registration of private outdoor video surveillance cameras; and

 

WHEREAS, this legislation would assist law enforcement officials with investigations of criminal activity; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of the City of Newark believes it is in the best interests of the residents of the City of Newark that the Police Department have the availability of such information in order to ensure public safety.  

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, AS FOLLOWS:

 

1.                     The Municipal Council of the City of Newark urges the adoption of Assembly Bill 3843 by the State Legislature.

 

2.                     A certified copy of this resolution shall be provided to the Essex County Delegation by the Office of the City Clerk.

 

STATEMENT        

         

             

 

This resolution urges the adoption of Assembly Bill 3843 by the State Legislation, which permits a municipality to enact ordinances requiring registration of private outdoor video surveillance cameras.
