                     Whereas, Ordinance 6PSF-E, May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Virginia Morton, has been a prominent leader, community activist and housing advocate in the City of Newark for over 60 years; and

 

Whereas, the Newark Municipal Council would like to commemorate her sincere dedication to the progress of Newark and the advancement of African Americans  by renaming the intersection Cabinet Street and West Market Street in her honor.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize and ratify the renaming of the corner of Cabinet Street and West Market Street as Virginia Morton Way.

 

2.                     The names of said streets shall remain Cabinet Street and West Market Street in their entirety.
