AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 29, STREETS AND SIDEWALKS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY CREATING CHAPTER 31, CLEAR ZONES.

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council desires to have regulated a certain area at or near the entrance to neighborhood businesses, shops, stores and other commercial establishments to be known and designated as a Clear Zones, which establishes a 10-20 foot radius around the entrance to any and all said neighborhood businesses, shops, stores and other commercial establishments to enable residents and patrons to patronize said neighborhood establishments in a safe, convenient and unobstructed manner; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council has determined by this Ordinance to impose certain obligations and requirements on the owners, operators and proprietors of all neighborhood business and commercial establishments, which are necessary to effectuate the purposes of this Ordinance and to enhance the commercial viability, appearance and attractiveness of the neighborhood business areas and to promote economic growth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
SECTION 1. The foregoing whereas clauses are incorporated herein by reference and made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. Title XXVIIII, Streets and Sidewalks, is amended to add the following new Chapter 31 entitled Clear Zones, which shall establish a 10-20 foot radius around the entrance to all neighborhood businesses, shops, stores and/or commercial establishments in the City of Newark, New Jersey.
