AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-1, STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING ABINGTON AVENUE AND 3RD STREET A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION.

WHEREAS, the Division of Traffic and Signals desires to improve safety at the intersection of Abington Avenue and 3rd Street by requiring drivers to stop on Abington Avenue before entering the path of vehicles traveling on 3rd Street, in the North Ward.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
 
      Section 1.  That Section 23:15-1, Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
 
      Abington Avenue and 3rd Street with stop on Abington Avenue
      
      Section 2.  Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
 
      Section 3.   This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
 
Section 4.  This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
 
      STATEMENT:
      
      This ordinance establishes the intersection of Abington Avenue and 3rd Street as a stop intersection with vehicles stopping on Abington Avenue, in the North Ward.
