WHEREAS, the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety (DHTS) solicits applications for highway safety grant projects designed to combat the number and severity of traffic crashes by developing and supporting educational and enforcement programs; and

WHEREAS, the DHTS Grant program entitled "Federal Highway Safety Grant" which emphasizes the importance of following traffic laws in an effort to ensure pedestrian safety; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark ("City") is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and spreading this life-saving message throughout our City; and

WHEREAS, on or about April 29, 2025, on behalf of the City, the Director of Police caused an application to be submitted to the DHTS requesting grant funding in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($50,000.00) from the "Federal Highway Safety Grant" campaign to be used to fund police overtime initiatives to enforce traffic laws in an effort to ensure pedestrian safety throughout the City; and
