WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, the Benavente family, has a long history of service and dedication to the city of Newark serving proudly and honorably in various law enforcement agencies; and
WHEREAS, Al Benavente, the family patriarch, began the family's long history in law enforcement service when he joined the Newark Police Department and quickly rose through the ranks, retiring after serving many years in former Mayor Sharpe James Department, where he served many years on the prestigious security detail of former Mayor Sharpe James; and

WHEREAS, his beloved son Andrew, began his dedicated service with the Newark Police Department with the distinct honor of becoming the youngest police officer sworn in, and during his years of service received numerous Unit Citations for exceptional work performed in his official capacity including arrests for robberies, assaults and sexual assaults; and

WHEREAS, other family members and extended members have served and/or continue to as Newark Police officers, Fire Department personnel, correction officers and security guards; and
