WHEREAS, during the month of November, our nation recognizes National Family Caregivers Month as a way to honor the more than 63 million family caregivers who provide one of life’s essentials; compassionate and care to loved ones across the United States. This dedication continues to strengthen families and communities and forms the backbone of our long-term care system; and

WHEREAS, this November in the City of Newark, New Jersey, we recognize the 1,760,000 family caregivers across our state who are helping their older parents, spouses and other loved ones live independently in their homes and in their communities-where they want to be; and

WHEREAS, from managing medications, preparing and providing meals, and transportation, as well as performing nursing and medical tasks, family caregivers must juggle caregiving with working, childcare and more. Their contributions are immeasurable—yet the role of this “invisible workforce” is becoming more difficult; and

WHEREAS, family caregivers’ contributions are immeasurable and deserve our gratitude, but they also need common sense solutions that save them money, time and provide support. It is encouraged that all residents of the City of Newark, reach out to the family caregivers in their lives and thank them.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

The month of November will be recognized as National Family Caregivers Month in Newark, New Jersey.

This Resolution is hereby ratified to the date of adoption of this authorizing resolution.
