AN ORDINANCE CREATING UNDER TITLE VIII, BUSINESS AND OCCUPATIONS, CHAPTER 36, CONSOLIDATED BUSINESS LICENSES OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, ESTABLISHING A CONSOLIDATED BUSINESS LICENSING PROCESS FOR BUSINESSES WITHIN THE CITY OF NEWARK.

WHEREAS, the City of Newark desires to have a more uniform business licensing application process that combines primary and ancillary licenses, and is more administratively efficient and effective; and
WHEREAS, establishing a single consolidated licensing process will encourage small business entrepreneurship, as well as lower administrative costs; and
WHEREAS, through this process, the City of Newark aims to streamline and reduce licensing application processing and turnaround time; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council and Administration seek to add to Title VIII, Business and Occupations, Chapter 8, Section 36 entitled "Consolidated Business Licenses"; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council and Administration seek to allow for consolidated business licenses, which will update the application process, establish the license renewal every two (2) years and increase the fee for the two (2) year license.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. Title VIII, Business and Occupations, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, is revised and creates the following:
TITLE VIII, CHAPTER 36, ENTITLED "CONSOLIDATED BUSINESS LICENSES"
8:36-1. DEFINITIONS
ANCILLARY LICENSE Shall mean any subordinate or any secondary license that is bundled with a primary license.
BAKER LICENSE Shall mean any establishment or location that bakes products and/or has industrial ovens for baking products for sale either wholesale or retail value.
