Purpose: To support all immigrant residents of the City of Newark by preserving and protecting laws and policies that strive to foster a diverse and inclusive immigrant community and opposing any discriminatory policies or adverse actions against privacy and civil liberties.

WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council encourages the peace and prosperity of the City’s ethnically, racially, linguistically and socio-economically diverse constituency; and
WHEREAS, many Newark residents are concerned about their rights, liberties, and protections under the law being violated under the new President Donald J. Trump Administration; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Newark Municipal Council have declared the City of Newark a Sanctuary City, a Fair and Welcoming Municipality that protects the rights of all City residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Newark Municipal Council supports protecting the rights and liberties under the law of all City residents and those particularly of vulnerable communities.
2. The Newark Municipal Council re-confirms its commitment of the City of Newark as a Sanctuary City.
STATEMENT
This resolution hereby declares the Newark Municipal Council’s support of the City of Newark as a Sanctuary City, a Fair and Welcoming Municipality that protects the rights of all City residents.
