Whereas, Ramonita Rivera, who was married to Rudes Rivera for over 48 years, immigrated to the United States from Puerto Rico in 1951, where they had ten children all raised in Newark; and
Whereas, she became a Community Activist and was the first Hispanic female elected as a District Leader in the City of Newark and served as a Board Member of FOCUS for over 20 years; and
Whereas, the Newark Municipal Council will like to commemorate her achievements by renaming the intersection of Cutler Street and Crane Street, "Ramonita Rivera Way" in her honor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT it does hereby authorize the renaming of the corner of Crane Street and Cutler Street "Ramonita Rivera Way" for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
1. Naming of the corner of Crane Street and Cutler Street "Ramonita Rivera Way" for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
2. The names of said streets shall remain Crane Street and Cutler Street in their entirety.
