WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, in 1968 Reverend Jose R. Fernandez, moved to the City Newark. Born in Las Tunas, Cuba, January 22, 1929, Reverend Jose R. Fernandez graduated from the Institute of Holguin in 1958 and went on to graduate from the Evangelical Seminar of Theology of Matanzas in 1962; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Jose R. Fernandez's first pastorate was between the years of 1962 and 1967, he decided to leave Cuba and migrated to Spain for a short time and thereafter decided to move to the United States settling in nearby Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a time he relocated to Newark, at the San Pablo Centenaria United Methodist Church, located on Mt. Prospect Avenue for a ministry that would last thirty (30) years; and

WHEREAS, throughout his religious tenure in Newark those thirty (30) years of dedication is reflected in the community. His dedication has helped shape the faith of the community, as well as provide spiritual guidance and vitally to those in need; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
