WHEREAS, the New Jersey State Legislature has appropriated funding under the State Body Armor Replacement Fund, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:17B-4.4, to provide for the purchase of body armor vests for eligible police officers in the State of New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark is committed to ensuring the safety of its police officers in the performance of their duties; and

WHEREAS, on July 24, 2025, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Public Safety submitted an electronic application to the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice requesting funding (to be set by a pre-determined formula) from the FY2025 Body Armor Replacement Fund Grant Program for the purchase of body armor vests, with no City funds required; and

WHEREAS, as a result of this application, the City of Newark, Police Division has been awarded funding in the amount of Eighty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred Forty-Eight Dollars and Forty-Five Cents ($89,548.45) from the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice, for the purchase of body armor vests, f...
