WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Houston Stevens, a lifelong labor and community activist, became actively involved within the West Ward Ivy Hill community where he was instrumental in the formations of numerous grassroots community organizations, including, but not limited to the Tuxedo Parkway Block Association, Ivy Hill Neighborhood Association, United Community Corporation, Partnership West, Inc. and the Giblin Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stevens was also instrumental in establishing the Summer Youth Leadership Program of Ivy Hill that provided summer jobs, collaborations with the Mount Vernon Elementary School to provide mentoring and tutoring programs, in addition to the establishment of several successful initiatives with Seton Hall University; and

WHEREAS, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain the legacy of Houston Stevens among Newark residents by honoring his many years of unselfish service to the City of Newark and to his beloved Ivy Hill West Ward community for honorary and ceremonial purposes.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Tuxedo...
