WHEREAS, Martin Pierre Brodeur, born in May 1972, is a Canadian, former ice hockey goaltender for the New Jersey Devils; and

WHEREAS, in his twenty-one (21) season tenure with the New Jersey Devils, he won three (3) Stanley Cup championships and five (5) Eastern Conference titles in seventeen (17) postseason campaigns; and

WHEREAS, he also won two (2) Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympic Games, as well as several other medals with Team Canada in other international competitions; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brodeur had other accomplishments - Rookie of the Year, three (3) time Stanley Cup Winner, four (4) time Vezina Trophy winner for the best goalie in the NHL, and ten NHL All-Star Game appearances; and

WHEREAS, his records include the most NHL wins of all time, the most regular season shutouts; the most games played all time by a goalie, the most thirty (30) win seasons, the most minutes played all time and the most post-season shutouts; and

WHEREAS, last year the New Jersey Devils honored Martin "Marty" Pierre Brodeur with the ultimate sports compliment: retiring his New Jersey Devils jersey; and

WHEREAS, the Devils further honor Mr. Brodeur on Saturday, October 22, 2016 with a statue at his former "home" Prudential Center here in the great City of Newark; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council would like to commemorate his legacy and his contributions to The New Jersey Devils, its fans and hockey as a whole.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
