WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Ana Doris Velez, was not only a beloved grandmother to her family, but also a cherished figure in the North Ward community for which she lived for thirty (30) years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Velez dedicated herself to the well-being and betterment to the children of the community and was affectionately known by the them as the grandmother of the neighborhood AKA "Abuela," a title she earned through her unwavering commitment to feeding, clothing and loving the children in her immediate area; and

WHEREAS, Abuela Doris' home was a sanctuary for many and a place where children could find guidance, support and love; she was more than a caregiver, she was a mentor, who helped countless children find their way out of trouble and onto a path toward brighter futures; and

WHEREAS, Abuela Doris' influence extended beyond her family, but touching the lives of many who always gave her deep respect and affection for what she so freely gave others from her heart and soul.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
