AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING MOUNT PLEASANT AVENUE AND GOUVERNEUR STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION (CENTRAL WARD).

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on June 29, 2023, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the intersection approaches of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Gouverneur Street, in the Central Ward, met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Gouverneur Street, in the Central Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

Section 1. That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

Mount Pleasant Avenue and Gouverneur Street (Central Ward)

Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Section 4. This Ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.

Section 5. Codification. This Ordinance shall be a part of the Code of the City of Newark as though codified and fully set forth therein. The City Clerk shall have this Ordinance codified and incorporated in the official copies of ...
