Whereas, Ordinance 6PSF-E, 052015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for deceased persons for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
Whereas, Tommie Newman, Newark and community activist, contributed greatly to the civic, economic and political progress of the South Ward community and its residents; and
Whereas, the Newark Municipal Council would like to commemorate her achievements by renaming the intersection of South 13th Street and Madison Avenue, in her honor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the renaming of the corner of South 13th Street and Madison Avenue as Tommie Newman Way for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
2. The names of said streets shall remain South 13th Street and Madison Avenue in their entirety.
