WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Elton T. Byrd has been Pastor of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for over thirty (30) years and he has been recognized for not only his preaching, but his singing abilities as well; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Byrd has served on many evangelical councils, been a board member of the Newark Board of Education and served on religious discussion panels to find a solution to the perils of the City of Newark and brought spiritual unity to its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Poinier Street as Rev. Dr. Elton T. Byrd Plaza.
2. The name of the said streets shall remain Elizabeth Avenue in its entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Poinier Street as Rev. Dr. Elton T. Byrd Plaza, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
