WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the "City") is in need of Per Diem Attorneys to serve as Municipal Public Defenders to be assigned to cases in the Newark Municipal Court; and
WHEREAS, Legal Services are Professional Services, exempt from the requirement for public bidding, pursuant to the Local Public Contracts Law, N.J.S.A.11-5(1)a(a)(i); and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark desires to enter into a contract with Jason A. Dennis, Esq., 485C US Highway 1 South, Suite #350, Iselin, New Jersey 08830-3037, to serve as a Per Diem Municipal Public Defender for the Newark Municipal Court, representing indigent defendants, for an amount not to exceed Seventeen Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($17,000.00), for the period commencing January 1, 2021 and terminating December 31, 2021; and
WHEREAS, this contract is for an amount not to exceed $17,000.00 and therefore is not subject to State Pay-to-Play Law (N.J.S.A. 19:44A-20.5); and
