WHEREAS, domestic violence is a pervasive public health and safety issue that affects individuals of all genders, ages, races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, millions of people in the United States experience physical, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse each year, often with lasting impact on their health, safety and well-being; and
WHEREAS, October has been nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, serving as a time to remember those lost to domestic violence and honor survivors.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. October 2026 is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Newark.
2. The Municipal Council encourages advocates, community organizations, concerned citizens, educators, healthcare providers and law enforcement to promote awareness.
3. This Resolution is ratified to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
STATEMENT
This Resolution declares October 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Newark.
