WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Robert Shelton Vining, Jr. was born and raised in the City of Newark and dedicated his life as a community activist, devoted to improving his neighborhood through outstanding commitment and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Vining served as a positive role model to the children in his community, working with various construction companies as a member of the Local 472 union, in addition to his years of personal sacrifice fighting to improve the quality of life for everyone in his neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, his passion and unyielding devotion to service endeared him to the community as one of Newark’s “unsung heroes” well deserving of special consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming to the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 10th Street as “Robert S. Vining, Jr. Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Avon Avenue and South 10th Street in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 10th Street as “Robert S. Vining, Jr. Way,” for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
