WHEREAS, Anthony F. Ambrose, III, a son of the City of Newark, began his career in Public Safety in 1986 as a Police Officer in the City of Newark; and

WHEREAS, Anthony F. Ambrose, III rose through the ranks serving as the Chief of Police in 1999 and Police Director in 2006; and

WHEREAS, Anthony F. Ambrose, III joined the County of Essex, New Jersey (a government agency that serve the City of Newark and contiguous municipalities) in 2006 in the Essex County Sheriff's Office as the Undersheriff and thereafter as Chief of Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Anthony F. Ambrose, III became the Director of Public Safety for the City of Newark in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Anthony F. Ambrose, III continues to serves the City of Newark; and

WHEREAS, employees who serve the City of Newark for twenty-five (25) consecutive years are granted lifetime health benefits; and

WHEREAS, but for the break in service, while serving the County of Essex, New Jersey (a government agency that serves the City of Newark and contiguous municipalities), Anthony F. Ambrose, III would have met the 25 years of continuous service with the City of Newark; and

WHEREAS, alternatively, the City of Newark would be unable to retain top talent in the area of Public Safety.
