WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, the late Mario Teixeira, Jr., was born on January 25, 1936 and was a lifelong resident of Newark, educated in the Newark Public School system and attended Newark College of Engineering; and

WHEREAS, Mario Teixeira, Jr., worked and was educated in funeral services in 1957 while attending the McAllister School of Embalming of New York City; Mr. Teixeira apprenticed and worked for various funeral homes and in 1963 he purchased the Buyus Funeral in Newark; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Teixeira, along with his wife, Rose successfully operated their business serving the entire ethnic mix of the Ironbound community for sixty-one (61) years; he was President of the Ironbound Kiwanis Club and President of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Fatima Church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Teixeira, was a prominent man in his community; he was Director of the Portuguese Language School of the Sport Club Portuguese, President of the Portuguese Continental Union, and the Portuguese Continental Credit Union, where he received a "Distinguished Service Award" from the Corporate Headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
