                     WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

 

WHEREAS, Bishop Thomas Cooper, has been a Pastor for over forty-five (45) years and resided in the West Ward of the City for over sixty (60) years; and

 

WHEREAS, Bishop Thomas Cooper, has been a staple in the community and an agent for change and growth.  He is a firm believer and advocate for empowering youth and assisting the elderly.  He lives by the word that he teaches and displays love beyond Palm Garden Holiness Church.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Bergen Street and Custer Avenue as “Bishop Thomas Cooper Way”.

 

2.                     The official name of the said street shall remain Bergen Street and Custer Avenue in their entirety.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Bergen Street and Custer Avenue as “Bishop Thomas Cooper Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
