WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation ("NJDOT") FY 2023 Bikeways State Aid Program provides Municipalities with grant funding for bicycle lane projects; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the "City") seeks to obtain funding from the FY 2023 Bikeways State Aid Program, to provide access to the Newark Central Business District for bicyclists, by creating a two-way separated bikeway beginning at Broad Street Train Station and termination at Broad Street and Central Avenue in Downtown Newark; and

WHEREAS, the City intends to further the public interest by obtaining funding from the NJDOT FY 2023 Bikeways State Aid Program for the construction of a two-way separated bikeway along University Avenue and Central Avenue (the "Newark Downtown Connector"); and

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2022, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, submitted an application, identified as BIKE-2023-Newark Downtown Connector- 00004 to NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of $442,260.00 from the NJDOT FY 2023 Bikeways State Aid Program, for construction of the Newa...
