AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE AND MURRAY STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. (EAST WARD)

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on March 18, 2022, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Murray Street have met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals desires to improve safety at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Murray Street, in the East Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

Section 1.  That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

 

                                          Pennsylvania Avenue and Murray Street

 

                     Section  2.                         Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

 

                     Section 3.                        This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

                     

Section  4.                      This Ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.

 

                                                                            

STATEMENT

 

This Ordinance places stop signs on all of the intersection approaches of Pennsylvania Avenue and Murray Street, in the East Ward.
