WHEREAS, the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program's mission is to enhance regional preparedness in major metropolitan areas through direct assistance to participating jurisdictions in developing an integrated regional system for prevention, protection, response and recovery from terrorist events or natural catastrophes; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Police Department has been awarded a grant in the amount of $12,500.00, from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness FY'14 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Grant to fund a Communications Planner position for the period commencing September 1, 2014 and terminating on August 31, 2016 toward the salary for the position of Communications Manager in the Police Department; and
