AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING WEST KINNEY STREET AND HOWARD STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on May 25, 2017, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the intersection of West Kinney Street and Howard Street, in the Central Ward, meets the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of West Kinney Street and Howard Street, in the Central Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
West Kinney Street and Howard Street
Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
STATEMENT
This ordinance authorizes the placement of Stop signs on all of the intersection approaches at West Kinney Street and Howard Street and designates this intersection as a multi-stop intersection. (Central Ward)
