WHEREAS, October is recognized as Blindness and Visual Impairment Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to increase public understanding of blindness and visual impairment, promote inclusion and accessibility, and recognize the accomplishments and contribution of people who are blind or visually impaired; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark recognizes the importance of raising public awareness about blindness and visual impairment and the challenges experienced by individual who are blind or visually impaired; and

WHEREAS, blindness and visual impairment affect individuals of all ages and background and can impact education, employment, mobility, independence, and participation in community life; and

WHEREAS, awareness and education can help reduce misconception and barriers faced by individuals with vision loss and encourage greater access to services, technology, transportation, employment, education, recreation, and other opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark is committed to fostering a community that promotes dignity, independence, accessibility, inclusion and equal opportunities for all residents, including those who are blind or visually impaired; and

WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the City of Newark believes that recognizing Blindness and Visual Impairment Awareness Month will help encourage greater awareness, understanding, support, and inclusion throughout the Newark community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
