WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Sport Maritomo Murtoense, located in Newark's Ironbound, stands as one of the most enduring Portuguese social clubs in the metro region; and

WHEREAS, founded by immigrants from Murtosa, Portugal, the club was established to provide a sense of community, cultural continuity, and mutual support for newcomers building their lives in their newly adopted country of the United States; and

WHEREAS, he worked for the Newark Board of Education at its Central Office and later went on to teach Special Needs students at Camden Street School, Montgomery and Central High School; and

WHEREAS, through his work, he has traveled to Egypt, Mecca and Madinah, Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem and Bermuda and is the father of three children Mustafa, Mansa and Madinah; and

WHEREAS, Imam El-Amin is CEO and Co-founder of Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Teachings and Development Center, in Newark, in addition to being the author of nine books, an educator and noted lecturer in the field of religion, and has achieved international acclaim as he was selected by a television producer from Europe to be the focus of a documentary on African American Muslims, which was held in Holland.
