AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 23, TRAFFIC, CHAPTER 15, STOP INTERSECTIONS, YIELD INTERSECTIONS AND THROUGH STREETS, SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING SOUTH STREET AND VAN BUREN STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION (EAST WARD).

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on June 3, 2023, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the intersection approaches of South Street and Van Buren Street, in the East Ward, met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of South Street and Van Buren Street, in the East Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

Section 1. That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

South Street and Van Buren Street (East Ward)

Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Section 4. This Ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.

Section 5. Codification. This Ordinance shall be a part of the Code of the City of Newark as though codified and fully set forth therein. The City Clerk shall have this Ordinance codified and incorporated in the official copie...
