WHEREAS, October 2026 is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual observance increasing public awareness of breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers, affecting individuals and families across our communities, regardless of age, background, ethnicity, gender, race, or socioeconomic status; and
WHEREAS, we stand with and honor our survivors battling breast cancer along with caregivers, healthcare providers and researchers working towards a cure; and
WHEREAS, we want to encourage all residents, government agencies, and local businesses to participate in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Mulberry Commons; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. October 2026 is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Newark.
2. The Municipal Council encourages residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to support and participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Mulberry Commons on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
3. This Resolution is ratified to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
STATEMENT
This Resolution declares October 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month and invites the community to participate in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to raise funds to help with early detection and treatments towards a cure.
