WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Sport Club Portuguese has been a recreational, social and cultural institution in the Ironbound section of Newark since 1921; and
WHEREAS, this year, 2021, represents its 100th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, as a tribute befitting its legacy and the many contributions it has made over the years, improving the quality of life for not only the Portuguese community, but for all Newark residents, the renaming of the corner of Ferry Street and Prospect Street will serve as a reminder of its importance to future generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Ferry Street and Prospect Street as “Sport Club Portuguese Plaza”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Ferry Street and Prospect Street in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Ferry Street and Prospect Street as “Sport Club Portuguese Plaza”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
