WHEREAS, the residents of Puerto Rican descent of the City of Newark, New Jersey have played a major role in the productivity of this community; and
WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Newark are very fond of the accomplishments of this segment of the community; and
WHEREAS, the residents of Puerto Rican Heritage have devoted their time and effort and self-sacrifice to help build on the social, health and welfare and political progress of this community; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council wants to commemorate the progress made by this segment of the community by designating street signage in their honor for all residents to enjoy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT it does hereby authorize the naming of Bloomfield Avenue between Broadway and North 12th Street as Avenida Puerto Rico for honorary and ceremonial purposes
1. Naming of Bloomfield Avenue between Broadway and the North 12th Street as Avenida Puerto Rico, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
2. The names of said streets shall remain Bloomfield Avenue between Broadway and North 12th Street in its entirety.
