WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Imam Hassan Sharif, was a leader within the Muslim Community, as well as a community leader in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, Imam Hassan Sharif was a respected member of the Council of Imams; the Muslim American Veterans Association and a variety of faith-based community organizations aimed at the improvement and well-being of youth and the less fortunate residents of the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, Imam Hassan Sharif dedicated his career to ensuring the safety and security of all fellow citizens, particularly, as he served as a TSA Agent for Homeland Security; and
WHEREAS, Imam Hassan Sharif will leave behind a legacy of participation, spiritual guidance, support and example to many, the City would like to support commemorating his legacy by renaming the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Fairmount Avenue in his honor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Fairmount Avenue as "Imam Hassan Sharif Way".
