WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Alejandro D. Hernandez, was born on January 2, 1929 in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. He worked in Cuba selling men's clothing for over twenty (20) years at two (2) different stores, "La Victoria" and "La Epoca"; and

WHEREAS, in 1968 due to the Communist takeover of his country, he moved to the United States with his wife and three (3) children; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, with the help of his friends and all the money that he had saved, he opened a business known as America' s Fashions on the corner of Adams Street and Ferry Street; and

WHEREAS, through his hard work, he was able to buy the building where he housed his business.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Intersection of Adams and Ferry Streets as "Alejandro D. Hernandez Blvd.".

2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Adams Street and Ferry Street in their entirety.

This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Adams Street and Ferry Street as "Alejandro D. Hernandez Blvd.", for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
